Venue Information: Where do we go?

Haarwegskloof: Songs of the Flow

Where do we go?

+/-185km from Cape Town, behind the little town of Piketberg on the N7 and 56km from Eland’s Bay you turn off into Moutonshoek – now a protected area. Following the dirt road until then end, you will find the beautiful private working farm and the home of Haarwegskloof. Enveloped by the free-standing Piketberg mountain, gorges, streams and rock-pools will stamp your face with ear-kissing grins and slow sunset walks will mail your spirit off to dance with the silent music on the horizon.

What makes this venue so perfect for multi-day kloofing: its stunning Autumn and the fact that Pebble Sky Adventures have sole access to run Haarwegskloof. What does that translate into to? Exclusivity: it means when you book the package, it will be only your group at base camp and running the kloof.

Pebble Sky has access to the upper small site which is situated at the start of the kloofing/canyoning trail The site has its own ablution with showers, flushing toilets, a mirror for the ladies and outside showers too for a quick rinse and a spin in the midday heat. This site is covered by old wild olive trees which is perfect to shade you from the West Coast Sun. The showers have no hot water at the moment – something we looking to remedy. We take shower bags with which we hang in the sun that will supply warm water in the meantime.

The has a communal braai/cooking area is situated right next to the river coming out form the gorge. So while we prepare dinner on the fire, you can relax in the rock pools with a cold beverage or a glass of wine and take in the experience or simply laugh at your adventure coming down the kloof.

What do I need to bring?

Your own transport! Now you might think why? Where is the bus? Firstly it is to save you money, secondly this put you onto your own schedule. Since the farm is so close to Eland’s Bay, you and family/friends might want to go for a surf/get crayfish after your adventure experience or simply drive back to the city on the coastal road and stop over at Langebaan for a meal. Your time is your own. And if you carpool with friends you can save on petrol money. A bus puts you on a schedule – and then your time does not belong to you anymore. Please note, the last part to the farm is on a dirt road but it is suitable for all vehicles if one drives properly.

A minibus can be arranged at extra cost for a group if available for the booking dates

PBST: your pillow, backpack, sleeping bag and tent. (Equipment rental is available.)

General: Your headlamp, bikini/baggies, sunscreen, hat, sandals, something warm for the evening, hiking shoes, old shoes with soft soles for Kloofing and lots of smiles. A good book goes well with wine and the sunset  pool.Remember to bring your own extra snacks, chocolates or sweets.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Pebble Sky Adventures do not supply any alcohol to clients nor do we accept purchase orders for alcohol from clients. Clients must purchase their own alcoholic beverages and ice. However, no person will be allowed to take part in any of the dangerous activities under the influence of alcohol. That said – there is nothing better than relaxing with something cold at the end of a long African summer’s day in a refreshing rock-pool. Let us enjoy nature with respect and clear minds.

So now I know what I must bring – but what does Pebble Sky pack in their trunks?

  • Stocked kitchen gazebo with cutlery, tables, cooler boxes, gas etc

  • all kloofing safety equipment
