Suicide Gorge and More

SUICIDE GORGE AND RIVIERSONDEREND

Day Trips:

Updated prices for the 2026/2027 season. Due to everyone, including our clients, feeling the pinch in their pockets with the current cost of living, fuel prices and the increase in permit prices for the upcoming season, Pebble Sky Adventures have decided to leave our prices unchanged for the start of the upcoming season.

Please note: Cape Nature has increased the permit prices from R450 per person to R510 per person for the 2026/2027 season!

A weather warning regarding El Nino!

South Africa, and particularly the Western Cape, is expecting high to extreme temperatures this summer with very little rain due to the Super El-Nino; they are also predicting isolated heavy downpours over the course of the summer. These factors will affect the scheduling and finishing times of groups. On very hot days, groups might have to wait and enjoy the junction pool at the end of Suicide Gorge for a bit longer than usual until the day cools a bit for a safe 6.5 hike back, which has no shade!

Suicide Gorge is a kloofing name that pops up on many a visitor's bucket list when visiting Cape Town. A short drive from Cape Town on the N2 takes you to the small town of Grabouw and the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve - the home of Suicide Gorge. This day trip is for the person who likes to feel their heart pumping in their veins when they stand on top of jumps as high as 14m. With the pools waiting below, buckle up those knees and suck up that courage!

Suicide Gorge is a long day out with a total distance of around 19.5km. Hike to the gorge about 9.5km, the gorge 1.3km (2.5km in kloofing terms) and the hike back to the car park about 6.5km (which includes a tough little climb out from the gorge). Be prepared for a long, fun-filled day.

Riviersonderend Gorge is the main artery that runs through the nature reserve and into the Theewaterskloof dam. This place is special in its beauty as it slots its way through from beginning to end. Its highest jump which is non-compulsory is about 7m. It will leave you smiling for a while. It is also a shorter and easier day than Suicide Gorge.

Booking requirements:

  • Minimum 2 people, maximum 8 people per group for Suicide Gorge. Please note that of summer 2018 Suicide Gorge can only be done with a competent and qualified kloofing/canyoneering guide.
  • For Riviersonderend: minimum of 2 persons and maximum of 12 people per group.
  • Please note that bookings for weekends are essential. Weekdays are more relaxed.
  • Day starts at 7-30am at gate of Nature Reserve and can go as late as 6pm to 7pm So be prepared.
  • An info package will be mailed to clients regarding the day once the trip is booked!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED FOR THE DAY TRIPS:

  • WATERPROOFED camera, cell phone or GoPro if you want to record your experience.
  • (Please note: Backpacks and dry bags are supplied by Pebble Sky Adventures for the day.)
  • For ladies: bikini or swimsuit - at the start and the end of the routes, you have to change from your hiking clothes into your wetsuit and vice-a-versa and the end. At these points privacy can be a problem as there will be other groups doing the routes. We advise wearing a bikini/swimsuit underneath your clothing. We will email relevant information for each venue once you book.
  • Old shoes for kloofing: the softer the sole the better as it offers more grip on the wet rocks and terrain. Old trail running shoes, aqua shoes etc. work fine for day trips.
  • Snacks (biltong, droe wors/dried sausage, dried fruit, apples, nuts, energy bars etc.), water, Isotonic drink to mix with water on hot days (Game, Energade) Water at all the locations are drinkable so you can just fill up your bottle as you go or simply sip from the stream.
  • Change of clothes and a warm sweater to be left in the vehicle for when you return to the parking area.
  • Courage and loads of smiles on your dial.
  • PLEASE NOTE: Once clients have booked, Pebble Sky will email complete packing list for the day!
